From Belfast toTiszaszentimre:
Finding Peace in Hungary

We’re Peter and Janice from Belfast. I (Peter) am a retired plasterer, having stepped away from work due to illness. My wife Janice works as a senior receptionist at a local doctor’s surgery.

Why Hungary?

Hungary had been on my radar for over 20 years, its beauty, space, and wildlife made a lasting impression. Back then, I had considered buying property as a family business venture, but life moved on. Years later, when I had to slow down, the idea of owning a peaceful holiday home came back. Janice and I visited multiple times and viewed about a dozen properties.

We discovered Martin on TikTok, and his content made us realise there was a lot we hadn’t considered. We wanted somewhere no more than 90 minutes from Budapest airport, and eventually fell in love with the Tisza and a house in nearby Tiszaszentimre.

How did the community help?

Honestly, before joining the community, we felt overwhelmed. There are so many listings, and it’s easy to get caught up in how a house looks without thinking about location, but as Martin and Kim say:

“You could end up in a mansion, but in the wrong place, it’ll become a nightmare.”

I first connected with Martin through TikTok and had a few chats. Eventually, we joined the Homes in Hungary community, and from that moment on, every question we had, and there were many, was answered.

When the sale on our dream house fell through, we moved on. But a few months later, the owner contacted us again. That’s when Kim and Csaba came down, viewed multiple homes for us, and their insights were the final push we needed to make another offer. Thanks to their support, we’re now homeowners.

What did you buy?

We bought a 2-bedroom house with around 1500m² of land. It needs work, and we didn’t realise how quickly costs add up, but we’ve nearly completed the interior and absolutely love it. It’s our peaceful escape from the pressures of UK life

We joined this community to avoid mistakes, and that’s exactly what we did. Martin and Kim helped us understand Hungarian property structure, location research, and everything in between.

We’d say: choose carefully and ask questions...

"...you don’t have to do this alone. Homes in Hungary made the whole experience smoother, safer, and far less stressful!"
